Trying Times? God's Love Never Fails!
II Samuel 16:11-12, 11
"And David saith unto Abishai, and unto all his servants, `Lo,
my son who came out of my bowels is seeking my life, and also surely
now the Benjamite; leave him alone, and let him revile, for Jehovah
hath said [so] to him; it may be Jehovah doth look on mine
affliction, and Jehovah hath turned back to me good for his reviling
What was David saying
to his servants that day as they were fleeing for their lives from
his son, Absalom, who was conspiring to take the kingdom from
him?He was saying in effect,
the Lord is working out a far greater purpose than what I can
understand now.David trusted
God's love, knew that God was all love and that everything that was
allowed to touch his life was all out of His infinite, unchangeable
love.David knew his ticket to
freedom while in the midst of the trial, despite desperate
conditions, as well as, the outcome of victory that God would bring,
was simply to trust in God's love for him.If God was allowing the humiliating
circumstances to shape a deeper godly character in him and a loving
destination for him, then David was willing to surrender his calling
of kingship, life, questions, fears, hopes and plans. In the same way when we trust and
surrender all to God, the events of our lives will play out to an
expected, glorious end if we give Him the reigns of our lives and
allow Him to guide, shape and bring us into to our promised land that
He has for us to possess.
David's son, Absalom,
aspired to take his father's kingdom from him. He planned and
schemed for forty years while he was in in-subordination to his
father, the king of Jerusalem, by stealing away the hearts of
the people through insincere, flattering promises. Then to top
it off, Absalom lied to David and requests his blessing to go to
Hebron in order to pay a vow to the Lord, which in reality was
the place he was going in conspiracy to take the kingdom from him.
Imagine the emotions
David must have experienced that day. He was full of grief for
his son, Absalom, even though he was in rebellion and seeking to take
his life. He was humiliated by the revolt against his kingdom
from his own son as he had to leave his throne and run and hide in
the wilderness. In all this, David understood that the circumstances
he was in had been allowed by God Himself and he chose to trust
Him. Why? David knew from so many past trials throughout
his life that he had a trustable God.
attributes to God what He only permits to happen, or what by His
providence He does not hinder. David considered all the events
that took place as being permitted by God for his chastisement and
humiliation. I love what Rev. Charles Wesley wrote: "Pure
from the blood of Saul in vain, He dares not the charge reply: Uriah's
doth the charge remain, Uriah's doth against his cry! Let Shimei
revile: the rod he bears for sins which mercy had forgiven: And in
the wrongs of man reveres the awful righteousness of heaven. Lord, I
adore thy righteous will, through every instrument of ill My Father's
goodness see; Accept the complicated wrong of Shimei's hand and
Shimei's tongue as kind rebukes from Thee.
When David came down
from his throne to run to the wilderness, he knew then that God was
for him and already working out a plan in the midst of the
circumstances for his good in spite of what he could see in his own
humanness. We see this because David allowed himself to be
humiliated and chastised without retaliation when he was a prominent,
mighty man of war, because through the Lord he had won so many
We all have our own
"Absalom" experiences. If you are in a humiliating,
trying circumstance that is testing everything within you, remember
the testimony of David's life and encourage yourself in the Lord.
Here is a helpful prayer to pray
during these kinds of trials and suffering:
Dear Heavenly Father, I don't understand what You are
doing through all these trying circumstances, but I put myself into
your hands and I choose to trust You for You are the only righteous
judge.You only can truly know
my heart.I don't even know
all of what is in my heart apart from You showing me.
I lean into the pain and I say even as David said,
"let him revile, for Jehovah hath said [so] to him; it may be
Jehovah doth look on mine affliction, and Jehovah hath turned back to
me good for his reviling this day.'
I allow you, Lord, to have reign over my life in these
difficult, painful circumstances for which I cannot understand the
reason.You are my God of
truth.You are watching out for
my good.Your master plan is
perfect and You will use it to bring me into what You have created me
to be and to do.
I submit and humble myself under Your hand knowing that
in due season, You will exalt me.My goal is Your goal.My life is in Your hands.I determine to look deeper than what my circumstances allow me
to see for I know You hold all my tomorrows.I believe You are orchestrating my
life's events because I have given you the reigns of my heart. My pleasure is Your pleasure. My joy is found in You alone.I choose to humbly walk before
If this trial is shaping me for greater purpose and
promotion of Your intended destination for me, I willingly lay down
all my questions, fears, hopes and plans. For I know that You are at work in
my life for my good. You knew
the end from the beginning that I would be where I am, right now, in
this place.I throw myself
upon your mercy and unfailing love for there I am safe and secure
from all harm.There I wait
with great expectancy for you to rescue me and I know You will bring
me into Your desire for me.I
know Your plan for me is a plan for peace and not for evil to give me
a future and a hope.
I understand that I must learn what You want to teach me
so I may acquire Your character in my life through this hardship,
because without it, I will not be able to go on to the next level you
have for me.The secrets I
learn from You here will be a treasure that will carry me
and prepare me for my next season.
I have learned that You are a good God, fully trustable
and You are solely out for my good.I will wait as Your perfect plan unfolds in my life.I'll exalt Your name in this hard
place that I might taste and see Your goodness in the land of the
living for my hope is in You.
You are working out a far better plan and purpose for my
life than what I can imagine or understand. You are all love; everything You do
for me and in me is out of Your great love.I choose to trust Your love.Trusting Your love makes me free as
I know you allow some things for a greater purpose than I can
Out of my mouth, I choose, to let praises flow to You my
God in the midst of my circumstance. It will be as anointing oil poured forth from my lips that
will lift me up above my circumstances and open up the way of the
deliverance from You my God on my behalf.
In Jesus' name, amen.
Line Ministries for Christ was established to assist individuals,
churches and organizations who seek to develop prayer ministries
and/or facilitate community prayer and outreach. The Lord has
placed in my heart a passion to see hurting people saved, healed
and restored in the Name of Jesus, and I believe prayer is the
foundation to see God's command in the Great Commission
(Mark 16:15-18) fulfilled.
would be such an honor and privilege if I can be a blessing to you!
